Rich and creamy Cherry Chocolate Smoothie is destined to delight you. It's full of luxurious dark chocolate flavor, perfectly sweet and so HEALTHY -  loaded with powerful antioxidants, fibers, and plant-based proteins, added sugar-free. Perfect meal in the morning or afternoons.

Cherry season is in full swing here. Luckily I live in a place where the climate is warm and ideal for cherries, so cherries are grown almost in every backyard here. So  this weekend my sister-in-law surprised with the basket full of beautiful cherries. Dark red, juicy and sweet as honey, grown on her grandfather's farm. Just delicious!

While I lured without blinking at this basket full of deliciousness, in my head, I already imagined all the stuff I could make with this sweet cherries. I don't have anything against cherries in a lemon cake or a delicious fruit crisp.  But first I grabbed a handful of cherries. Then I promised my sister-in-law that I will dedicate my next post to her as thanks. And here we are, my dear sister. I know you love cherries, so this smoothie is just for you.

So when I receive a precious gift like this one - a fresh locally grown cherries, if I can't eat them all in once (and I usually can't), I just freeze them. That way I have them in my freezer for, well whatever... dessert, quick chia jam or for smoothie.. like this one, that I'm sharing today with you.

Cherry Chocolate Smoothie is one of those smoothies that is extra delicious... because cherry-choco is match-made-in-heaven. Not only this smoothie is heavenly smooth, thick and super tasty, but also very nutritious and completely low-calorie.

Cherry Chocolate Smoothie is loaded with dietary fibers and natural plant-based proteins, vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants. A real SUPERFOOD for the body. Although this smoothie is great for breakfast, I somehow love to have this smoothie at evening, after my evening run just before my bedtime yoga. Cherries and raw cocoa in this smoothie help me with full body relaxation, and muscle recovery, especially after the workout.

Cherries are cute little fruits. Yup.. they are rich in dietary fibers and vitamins - especially vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B6, and also many essential minerals, like potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium. That's why cherries are great for our heart health, they make our skin glow, and our bones strong. Also, cherries can help with help with weight loss (yay!).

But cherries are special as something else. They contain melatonin, a compound that has a soothing effect on our nervous system and helps us with relaxation. Also, cherries reduce inflammation, relieve pain and restore body strength. That's why cherries are PERFECT fruit for those who exercise.

To make this Cherry Chocolate Smoothie I used frozen fruits - cherries and banana. Ripe banana added natural sweetness, so this smoothie contains NO ADDED SUGARS. Also, banana gave special creaminess and thickness. You can literally eat this smoothie with a spoon. Yummy!

I also used a raw cocoa powder that enriched smoothie with amazing chocolate flavor but also added antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Raw cocoa is a good source of iron too. To give this smoothie, even more, power, I used super-spice Ceylon cinnamon and flax seeds - loaded with healthy omega-3, fibers, and proteins.

This soothing, sweet and just perfect Cherry Chocolate Smoothie could become your next absolute favorite. Its thickness, creaminess, and deliciousness could be easily mistaken for some luxurious dessert. Am I right? Just look at that smoothie.

I dare you not to make one right after reading this.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup cherries , pitted and frozen
  • 1 banana , ripe and frozen
  • 2 tablespoons raw cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1 cup water , or ice
  • Topping: raw cocoa beans, ground flax seed

Instructions
 

  • Put all the ingredients in the blender and mix until well combined. If necessary, add some water or ice cubes to get a smoothie desired consistency.
  • Sprinkle with crushed raw cocoa beans and ground flax seeds.

Notes

As a measure, I used a cup of 240 ml (UScup).
