Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie is the ultimate morning breakfast smoothie! It’s HEALTHY, deliciously creamy and SO satisfying + refined sugar-free and packed with nutrients and powerful antioxidants.
I'm currently on a blueberry spree. It seems I can't stop myself from putting blueberries in all of my meals and loading them into my mouth. From French Toast Muffins topped with blueberries to beautiful Berry Banana Breakfast Oat Bars. It's an obsession that I kinda like... and it's totally good for my health.
Since summer is not kidding around here (last few days temperatures are 95+F, even the mornings are so darn hot) I've decided to mix a cool and refreshing smoothie with blueberries for breakfast. I put literally what I had in my fridge. I didn't plan to post it on my blog or anything, but it turned out so gooood. And by good, I mean freaking GOOD! I just had to share this creamy splendor with you guys. And here it is... deliciously creamy and refreshing Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie.
Smoothies are PERFECT summer drink. Erm.. I mean MEAL. Yes, some smoothies are packed with nutrients and can serve as full breakfast. Sometimes smoothies are so filling that we simply can drink them all in once. In that case, just pack the smoothie in a bottle with a good lid, and keep it in the fridge. It can stand for another few hours.
When I make my smoothies, I always choose seasonal, fresh and natural ingredients. Also, I always ensure that smoothie is well-balanced - that it contains a good proportion of all nutrients - proteins, fibers, natural sugars and some healthy fats. Like this Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie. It's super HEALTHY, high in proteins, packed with dietary fibers and healthy omega-3. It WILL keep you full HAPPY all morning.
To make this Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie I used all HEALTHY stuff that is more than good for our health. Of course, the main SUPER stars of this smoothie are the blueberries - sweet and dark-blue berries that I love greatly. If you only knew how much blueberries are healthy for our body, believe me, you would love them just as much as I do.
Blueberries are one of the most nutrient-dense foods in the world! In -the-WORLD! They are loaded with powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, immune boosting vitamins - vitamin C and vitamin K but also with dietary fibers. They protect our heart and are good for our skin and bones (helou strong bones and good looking amazing skin). Blueberries lower the risk of developing cancer and they are good for our brain function too. Above all, blueberries taste SO good - sweet and tangy and fresh- what's there not to LIKE about blueberries.
Usually, as a base for making my smoothies, I use plant based milk. This time I decided to go with something "stronger," more protein-rich. So I used Quark cheese. Quark is a popular product here in Central Europe. Its texture is somewhere between Greek yogurt and cream cheese, and it has a mild, more sweet taste. What's super exciting about Quark cheese is that it's super high in protein (twice as much as Greek yogurt) while it can be super low on fat (fat content may vary depending on the brand). If you can't get your hand on Quark cheese, you can sub for Greek yogurt in this recipe.
I've enriched this smoothie even more with wonderful chia seeds, that are rich in fibers, proteins, and heart-HEALTHY omega-3. So this Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie turned out to be an excellent post-workout meal great for those who lead an active life.

The part that I really like about this smoothie (besides blueberries, and creaminess and deliciousness) is that this smoothie contains no ADDED sugars. Woohoo, right?! It's naturally sweetened with ripe banana... However, if you feel like it's not sweet enough, because of the tartness of berries or cheese, you can add a teaspoon of honey or syrup.
I think you don't have to think much anymore nor longer wait. Go and get yourself some blueberries while still in season. Mix this delicious Blueberry Banana Chia Smoothie and enjoy! ;)

Had to do a double take at the kcal unit... thought there was actually 417 000 calories lol. Added a teaspoon of almond butter and it brought it to a whole other level! Loved the ratio of cinnamon and blueberries tho
