If you love classic milkshakes you’ll probably will love this healthy alternative to chocolate milkshake. This sweet smoothie is actually so healthy you can have it for breakfast everyday. It contains lots of fibers and it’s naturally sweetened with carob and banana.
Carob gives this smoothie a unique flavor, something between cocoa and caramel. In addition to it’s lovely taste, carob is a caffeine-free and has a lots of other health benefits. He is rich in B vitamins, vitamin E and antioxidants and it helps regulate the digestion process and lowers cholesterol, while serving as a natural antiseptic, and anti-bacterial agent.
Carob may be the star of this smoothie but co-star of this smoothie is definitely a dinkel wheat, also known as spelt wheat. Dinkel wheat is packed with nutrients that many other cereals do not contain. He is high in carbohydrates, as you would expect, but with very high levels of protein and dietary fiber what makes dinkel specialy good for boosting digestive function and regulating the body’s metabolism.
So this smoothie is definitely a nice way to bring some classic flavors together but with a super-healthy twist.
For this smoothie I used unsweetened homemade coconut milk. To make my smoothie naturally sweet, I used full ripe banana. If you don’t have coconut milk, you can use almond or soy milk, or plain non-fat milk, and if you don’t have ripe banana or prefer sweeter tasting smoothie, use plain banana and add some honey, but be careful not to overdo with extra unnecessary calories and sugars.
Banana coconut carob smoothie
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tablespoon carob powder
- 1 tablespoon dinkel spelt wheat
- 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
- Coconut chips
Add all the ingredients to your blender and process until smooth.
